The Book Gail Simone Pitched to Unbench Stephanie Brown

dcwomenkickingass:

Very soon after the DC reboot revealed the benching of Stephanie Brown and Cass Cain, writer Gail Simone began tweeting and posting about a project she was pitching to “unbench” at least one of the characters.

The book was originally pitched at SDCC 2011 and went through some permutations. Today Simone posted about what the premise was and who exactly was on the team.

Posting on her Tumblr, Simone stated:

This was a book I worked on for a year with alterations. I wanted to do a girl team book featuring Black Alice, Misfit, a young Bumblebee, and led by Stephanie Brown. They would all be going to the same high school. The plan was to have BQM [Note Bryan Q. Miller] co-write it with me.

It went through lots of permutations and changes but eventually, they passed on it, which was understandable but a little bit (okay, a lot) heartbreaking. I don’t want to say more about it, but that’s a big reason why I was hopeful about some of those characters, because it seemed a pretty exciting premise.

But it doesn’t mean those characters won’t be back at some point, hopefully they will.

So there you have it. A pitch with Stephanie Brown and all female team written by Gail Simone and potentially Bryan Q. Miller was passed over by DC.

I wish I could say I was surprised.
